This is the pier on lake Michigan that is connected to the War Memorial in Milwaukee, WI. The memorial was designed by Eero Saarinen which is the connection I alluded to in yesterday's post. In my limited experience with Saarinen work in St. Louis and Milwaukee I am amazed at his ability to not just create buildings but places. The memorial is mostly forgotten as it is overshadowed by its neighbor designed by Calatrava. It is still a marvelous example of modern architecture and provides a wonderful view of its neighbor as well as the lake. Tomorrow we go back to St Louis.
